O’Melveny has approximately 45 Employee Networks open to all around the globe focused on identity, including age/stage, first generation, gender, LGBTQ+, parenting, race/ethnicity, and religion.

The Networks welcome all colleagues to join in their activities, which include organizing professional development events, doing community outreach, assisting with recruiting, and enjoying social functions.

DE&I Programming

Alongside routine and timely programming from our approximately 45 Employee Networks, on an annual basis, O’Melveny commemorates Embracing Diversity and Values Day. On this day, the entire firm celebrates the critical importance of diversity and inclusion to our core values.

Each office marks the day by organizing its own slate of events, presentations, and team activities tailored to issues central to its community. A past theme, AMPLIFY, sought to elevate the experiences of individuals with different backgrounds and to engage in specific allyship across difference.

DE&I Education

At O’Melveny we strive to learn, grow, and evolve with the world around us.

Every year we host inclusivity training and conversations on a variety of topics, such as anti-harassment. In 2025, topics include working across generational differences, the experiences of women partners, celebrating African Americans in journalism, and exploring Armenian culture and history, among other topics.

Retention

O’Melveny offers leadership academies to attorneys of all backgrounds and experience levels.

Each academy provides best-in-class professional development training that’s designed to meet the needs of attorneys of all backgrounds and experience levels. Participants are invited to take part in a series of workshops led by recognized leadership development professionals as well as senior lawyers from the firm. The academies also include networking events that facilitate lasting connections between colleagues.

O'Melveny also focuses on building a pipeline of lawyers of all backgrounds who grow to become our leaders.

Our comprehensive talent development infrastructure emphasizes growth and the development of leadership skills, supporting lawyers through every stage and milestone.

Student Pipeline

We believe that we must foster the success of underserved populations, both long before law school, and during law school.

We invest nearly half a million dollars annually in scholarship programs for elementary and high school students from underserved communities in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Seoul.

Supporting the SF Bar's Justice & Diversity Center

O'Melveny advised The Bar Association of San Francisco's Justice & Diversity Center on online staffing of its by-appointment clinic to advise frontline workers on incapacity planning, e.g., powers of attorney and medical directives.

PlayOn! Sports

O'Melveny provided advice and counsel to PlayOn! Sports, a leading high school media company that live streams more sports events than any company in the world, in connection with diversity, equity, and inclusion related matters after an announcer was captured during a livestream directing racial slurs and expletives toward members of an Oklahoma girls' high school basketball team.
