Julia Schiller helps clients navigate complex antitrust issues, drawing on her deep and varied experience in both the government and in private practice to advise clients on merger reviews, conduct investigations, and antitrust litigation.

Julia rejoined O’Melveny from the Antitrust Division of the US Department of Justice, where she served as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General from 2017-2020. In that role, Julia provided oversight across a broad range of enforcement matters. In addition, she played a key role in advancing significant new or updated policies at the Division, including those regarding merger remedies, alternative dispute resolution, and the timing of the Division’s merger review process.

At O’Melveny, Julia has guided numerous clients’ transactions through the antitrust agencies’ review process and represents businesses in government investigations arising from suspected violations of the antitrust laws.

Julia also provides strategic advice and practical solutions on competition issues. She counsels clients on antitrust enforcement in labor markets, compliance with Section 8 of the Clayton Act, information sharing, collaborations among competitors. With respect to mergers and acquisitions, Julia advises clients on allocating antitrust risk in transaction agreements and obligations under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act. She also designs antitrust compliance programs.

Julia has litigated antitrust matters in both the government and private practice. On behalf of the United States, she served as trial counsel in the Antitrust Division’s successful challenge to the merger of Novelis and Aleris, which was its first use of arbitration to resolve a merger challenge. In addition, she has successfully defended companies in class action litigation involving claims of price fixing.

  • Obtained DOJ clearance on behalf of Dealertrack Technologies Inc. for its acquisition by Cox Automotive.
  • Represented Asiana Airlines in In re Air Cargo Shipping Servs. Antitrust Litig., 06-MD-1775 (E.D.N.Y.), involving claims of price fixing.
  • Obtained FTC clearance for Regis Corporation for its sale of Hair Club to Aderans Co. and Bosley, Inc.
  • Obtained DOJ clearance on behalf of Norsk Hydro for its joint venture with Orkla ASA.
  • Represented T-Mobile USA, Inc. and Deutsche Telekom AG in United States v. AT&T Inc., No. 11-01560 (D.D.C.) in connection with the proposed sale of T-Mobile to AT&T.
