O’Melveny Helps Non-Profit That Aids Doctors Serving Refugees
O’Melveny assisted Frontida Records—a nonprofit organization that builds customizable digital health applications for low-resource, rural, and crisis-responding communities—with pro bono guidance on developing a records system and navigating data privacy concerns for doctors serving refugees in Europe.
“We needed to launch this product in a way that was legally sound and made government entities and doctors in the field feel comfortable using it,” said O’Melveny special counsel Scott Pink. “This illustrates how doing pro bono work can have an actual impact on people.”
“It is an example of where I helped an organization that in turn has improved people’s lives. The goal of pro bono is to do good, and while it may be hard to see how advising on a privacy policy is ‘doing good,’ that work empowers the organization to have a meaningful effect on the world,” he said. “It is a great feeling to work with people and help them achieve their goals while learning things myself along the way.”
