Daily Journal: O’Melveny Negotiates Historic Deal to Compensate Families Displaced in Palm Springs

The City of Palm Springs agreed to pay US$5.91 million to compensate families--primarily Black, Latino, and Native American-who were forcibly displaced from their homes in the 1950s and 1960s. “The odds were long, the legal questions were novel, and the path to resolution required extraordinary persistence and strategic brilliance,” O’Melveny partner Daniel Suvor said. “The O’Melveny team--working alongside the incomparable Areva Martin--met the moment, balancing legal skills and advocacy to deliver a precedent-setting result that will stand as a model for reconciliation-driven litigation nationwide.”
