ERCOT Market Summit: Wholesale Market Design Changes
February 26, 2025
O’Melveny partner Katie Coleman will be a featured panelist at the 2025 ERCOT Market Summit discussing design changes for the wholesale market and the implications for suppliers and consumers.
“The ERCOT market is still in the process of implementing the programs mandated in the 88th Legislative session. Knowing what will be implemented, and when, will be needed to reach a PPA-level of certainty in market participants. This panel will examine the market design principles employed, how they will affect both power generators and customers, and their implementation schedule.” Coleman’s panel will explore the following questions:
- How are capacity and resource adequacy concerns being addressed?
- Will the ERCOT market continue to depend on “conservative operations,” and if so, at what cost?
- How will adding some capacity functions impact energy costs?
- What will the impacts of the implementation of RTC be?
- How are consumers viewing the situation?
- What impacts will public attitudes have going forward?
- How is the current slate of market changing policy and regulatory decisions moving forward?
