Association for Competitive Technology: SEPs, FRAND, Regulation, and Competition

September 28, 2026

O’Melveny partner Shawnna Yashar will be a featured speaker at the ACT’s seminar on standard-essential patents, FRAND, regulation, and competition held in Rio de Janeiro. Yashar will join a panel discussion on SEPs in Brazil, regulation, legal certainty, and convergence. “The panel considers what in SEP licensing calls for a regulatory response and what should remain in the private or judicial sphere, how the judiciary, regulators and authorities might coordinate, and how global licensing negotiations, transparency, pre-litigation protocols, and information asymmetries should be addressed.”

Shawnna Yashar is a highly experienced global intellectual property litigator and license negotiator with more than 20 years of advising innovative technology and software companies in high-stakes IP and commercial disputes. She has deep expertise in Standard Essential Patents, including LTE, 5G, HEVC, H.264, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 7, VVC, AAC, xHE-AAC, and Opus, and is widely recognized for her work on global FRAND/RAND disputes, SEP rate-setting actions, injunctive remedies, and antitrust strategy across major jurisdictions.
